‘Tatkal’ literally means ‘immediately’. Tatkal booking is made for the journey at very short notices (i.e. Some days before the departure of the train from its source station).
Tatkal charges are different for different classes:
- Sleeper Class: Minimum charge is Rs 90 and Maximum charge is Rs 175
- AC 3 Tier, Minimum charge is Rs 250 and Maximum charge is Rs 350
- AC 2 Tier Minimum charge is Rs 300 and Maximum charge is Rs 400.
No refund will be granted on the cancellation of an confirmed Tatkal ticket but in case the status of Tatkal ticket shows waiting or RAC then, refund of fare shall be granted in accordance with the Railway rule.
Step 1: Logon to the Official Website of IRCTC for booking a Tatkal ticket and enter your User id and Password along with the Captcha information.
You need to select “Ticket Booking” on the menu bar at the top left corner under the ‘services’ option.
Step 3: After selecting the ticket booking option, You need to fill up the journey details like source station, destination station, date of your journey, and the type of the ticket. The date of journey will be one day in advance in case of tatkal booking.
Step 4: You will get the list of all the trains available on that particular date. You need to select “TATKAL” at the top of the list. Now select the train according to the availability of the trains on that particular date.
Step 5: After selecting the train you will find the Available seats on that particular train. Click on “Book Now” option.
Step 6: Now your ‘Journey Details’ will be displayed after clicking on the ‘book now’ option along with the ‘Passenger Details’ and with some choices.
Step 7: Now enter your details in the “Passenger Details” column like your Name, Age, Gender, berth Preference, Id Card Type and Id Card Number. You have to enter your Id card number for booking a tatkal ticket.
Step 8: You need to enter the captcha information shown above the captcha field and your mobile number for the verification. Click on ‘Next’ to proceed.
Step 9: Your booking information will be displayed along with your Id card number. Now select the Payment Mode through which you want to make the payment. For example I have selected “Net Banking” as my payment mode.
Step 10: Now select the Bank from which you want to make transactions. Then click on ‘Make Payment’.
Step 11: Enter your User Name and Password of your Net banking and click on submit button.
Step 12: After clicking on submit, your account details will be displayed.
Step 13: Now you have successfully booked the ticket. You can also take the printout of your ticket in both Hindi as well as in English. Click on “Print ERS (english)”.
Step 14: The printout of your e-ticket in English will be displayed in other window.
