Excel allows you to add and remove watermark from the spreadsheet. Watermark can either be a text or a picture that you add to the background of your document that appears behind the main text of your document.
However, the watermark does not overshadow the main text of the document. This is because the watermark is usually applied in a lighter shade so that it doesn’t create any problem in reading the document.
In this section, we will discuss the following:
- Add a Text Watermark
- Format a Text Watermark
- Add Watermark Using Word Art

The watermark is usually transparent so you have to be specific while formatting the picture you are using for the watermark.
The watermark is usually at the centre of the document. When you add a text or a picture in the header of the excel sheet it appears on the top of the sheet.
To reposition the text or the picture watermark just click on the Header and place the cursor at the beginning of the text or the picture. Now, repeatedly press the Enter key until the picture or text reaches the desired position.
Resize the Picture Watermark
In the Format Picture window click on the Size tab. Here you can resize the picture watermark on an excel sheet.
Click on the Header cell of your spreadsheet, select delete its content. May it be a text or a Code ‘&[Picture]’. And it will automatically remove the watermark from the excel sheet.
So this is all you can do to add and remove the watermark from your excel sheet.
