Excel allows you to add and remove watermark from the spreadsheet. Watermark can either be a text or a picture that you add to the background of your document that appears behind the main text of your document.
However, the watermark does not overshadow the main text of the document. This is because the watermark is usually applied in a lighter shade so that it doesn’t create any problem in reading the document.

Steps to Add and Remove Watermark in Excel:
Add a Text Watermark
Step 1: Open the spreadsheet where you want to add a watermark. Go to Insert>Text>Header & Footer.
Step 2: Now click on the Header cell and write the text that you want to add as a watermark as I have written ‘QUEHOW’. Now click anywhere in the spreadsheet and you can see the watermark at the top of the spreadsheet.
Format a Text Watermark
To format the text watermark, select the text in the header cell and go to the Home tab where you can increase the ‘font size’ and change the ‘font colour’. You can even change the’ font style’.
Add Watermark Using Word Art
Step 1: You can even add the watermark in excel using Word Art. Go to the Insert tab>Text>Word Art. Select the word art of your choice.
Step 3: A text box will appear at the centre of your spreadsheet write the text you want as the watermark.
Step 4: If you feel you can even ‘rotate’ the word art at your preferred angle.
Format Word Art Watermark
Step 1: Just right-click on the Word Art and from the displayed menu you have to select the ‘Format Shape…’ option.
Step 2: A ‘Format Shape’ workspace will appear at the right side of your Excel window, letting you format the shape and text of Word Art.
Add a Picture Watermark
Step 1: To add a picture as a watermark go to Insert>Text>Header & Footer.
Step 2: Click on the Header cell and go to Design>Header & Footer Elements. In the Header and Footer Elements group click on the ‘Picture’.
Step 3: An ‘Insert Pictures’ window will pop up where you can browse for the picture.
Select the picture of your choice.
Step 4: Now in the Header cell of the spreadsheet you can see the ‘&[Picture]’.
Click outside the Header cell and the selected picture will appear at the background of the spreadsheet.
Format Picture Watermark
Step 1: To format the picture that you are going to use as a watermark go to the Design tab and, in the Header, & Footer Elements click on the ‘Format Picture’ option.
Step 2: A ‘Format Picture’ window will popup where you have to go to the ‘Picture’ tab. Here you can crop the picture and change the picture elements such as colour, brightness and contrast.
The watermark is usually transparent so you have to be specific while formatting the picture you are using for the watermark.
Reposition Watermark
The watermark is usually at the centre of the document. When you add a text or a picture in the header of the excel sheet it appears on the top of the sheet.
To reposition the text or the picture watermark just click on the Header and place the cursor at the beginning of the text or the picture. Now, repeatedly press the Enter key until the picture or text reaches the desired position.
Resize the Picture Watermark
In the Format Picture window click on the Size tab. Here you can resize the picture watermark on an excel sheet.
Remove Watermark
Click on the Header cell of your spreadsheet, select delete its content. May it be a text or a Code ‘&[Picture]’. And it will automatically remove the watermark from the excel sheet.
