In Windows, you have seen the control panel, which is used to install or uninstall any programs. In the same way, Ubuntu provides you “Ubuntu Software Center” to perform that operation.
If you find a better program as compared to the one which is installed on your system, then you might need to use this feature of Ubuntu, It is very easy to add and remove any application in Ubuntu system. Just have a glance at this article to find out how to add or remove programs in Ubuntu 14.04.
Steps to add and remove programs:
Step 1: First go to the ‘Unity launcher’, and then click on “Ubuntu Software Center” icon, as shown in the image below.
Step 2: Under ‘Ubuntu Software Center’ go to “Installed” tab.
Step 3: Now, you’ll see a list of categories of all the installed applications. Here, you can choose any category according to your need.
Step 4: Now, We are uninstalling “Thunder bird Mail”. So for that you can either click on “More info” button to check the application information before uninstalling or you can directly click on “Remove” button.
Step 5: Once you are assured that you want to uninstall the program, then you can click on “Remove button”.
Step 6: Your application may also contain some attached programs, don’t worry just click on “Remove all” button to remove them also.
Step 7: Now, you may be prompted to provide your Ubuntu password for authentication, just type your password and click on “Authentication button”.
Step 8: Now, if you want to install any application then, go to “Ubuntu Software Center” and select any category. As I choose “internet”
Step 9: Under ‘Internet’ category, go to “Mail” tab, as shown in the image below.
Step 10: As I want to install “Evolution Email and Calendar”, So for that, click on ” Install “button.
Step 11: Hence, your new mail application is installed now.
