The Hotkey can be termed as the shortcut keys, that can be assigned to a particular program. The benefit of this key is to open your favorite program, which you are using frequently, in few seconds through the keyboard.
One who do not like to use the mouse, and at times they are busy in typing something through the keyboard, assigning the shortcut keys can be beneficial.The formula to assign a shortcut is “Ctrl+ ALT + any other key” or “Ctrl + Shift + any other key” but it should be kept in mind that only two modifiers are to be used among the three i.e. Ctrl, Alt or Shift.

Step 1: Locate the program for which you want to assign a shortcut key, it can be a folder, text document or software, then right click on it and go to “Properties”.
Step 2: Click on “Shortcut” menu at the top of the window.
Step 3: Under “Shortcut Key” you”ll see “None”, if no shortcut is assigned, so place the cursor over None and insert the shortcut key.
I have inserted “Ctrl + Alt + O” as “O” resembles to the program Outlook. Finally, press “OK” button.
NOTE:
Always use the third key as the one which can resemble somewhat to a program, so that it would be easier for you to remember.
Step 4: A dialog box may appear, just click on “Continue” to grant administrator permission, then check it out that whether it is working properly or not.
NOTE:
Do not use Esc, Enter, Ins, Del, Tab, space-bar, PrtScn, Shift, or Backspace keys as a third key.
