You can Backup files in OneDrive as it will make available your important files anywhere and on any device. Well, there is no charge of backing up files to OneDrive up to 5GB. If you require more space, you can go through the OneDrive plans
You can do this with two methods which we will be discussing in this section. So, let us start with the steps to back up files in OneDrive.
- Using the Back-Up wizard of OneDrive
- Change Backup Settings
- Saving the Files Directly to the OneDriveFolder
Steps to Backup Files in OneDrive:
Using the Back-Up wizard of OneDrive
Step 1: Log in to the OneDrive app of your system and from the system’s tray click on the OneDrive icon.
Further, click on More and then click on Settings.
Step 2: A Microsoft OneDrive dialog box will appear, go to the Backup tab of the dialog box. Under the Backup tab you have ‘Manage backup’ button, click on this button.
Step 3: OneDrive’s ‘Back up your folders’ dialog box will appear. Here, you have to select the folders of which you want to create a backup. This wizard by default has the Desktop, Documents and Picture folder from your ‘This PC’ folder. So, along with the OneDrive folder of your system, these selected folders will also sync in OneDrive.
On selecting the folders click on Start backup.
You can see that your folders are now syncing to the OneDrive.
While your files are syncing you can you can view the sync progress by clicking the View sync progress button.
You can now view your OneDrive folder, all the folders you selected for backup are synced in the OneDrive folder. And whenever you will add new files to these folders they would sync in OneDrive and if you modify the existing files it would be added to the OneDrive backup.
Change Backup Settings
Step 1: Now, in case you want to stop a folder from backing up then again from the system tray click on the OneDrive icon and then trace the following path: More>Settings>Backup>Manage backup.
Step 2: You will get a Manage folder backup dialog box. Here, below the folders that are syncing in OneDrive, you can see a Stop backup option. Click Stop backup to stop syncing the folder to OneDrive.
Step 3: In the next dialog box it will confirm that you want to stop backup of the particular folder. To confirm, click on Stop backup.
Step 4: Click on Close to end the process.
Saving the Files Directly to the OneDrive Folder
You can directly save the files that you want to backup directly to your OneDrive folder. Or you can drag and drop that file to your OneDrive folder. These files will be available to you via the OneDrive website.
