How to Change a Drive Letter in Windows 7

If you wish to change your drive letter and need some assistance to do this, then, no worries, you can easily change it according to your choice, by the use of Windows 7 Disk Management Tool.

Make sure that you do not choose the letter which is already assigned to any other drive. You can change the drive letter of the external disks such as pen-drive or Cd’s. Here’s the article that guides you how to change a drive letter in windows 7 by following the simple steps as explained below.

Steps to Change a Drive letter in Windows 7

Step 1: Go to “Start” and then click on “Control Panel”.

Step 2: Click on “System and Security”.

Step 3: Click on “Administrative tools”.

Step 4: Then select the “Computer Management”.

Step 5: From menu, on the left side, choose “Disk Management”.

Step 6: Right click on the drive you want to change and from options displayed, click on “Change Drive Letter and Paths”.

Step 7: After this a dialog box will appear, click on “Change” button and then press “OK”.

Step 8: Choose the letter that will replace the existing drive letter.

Sometimes the particular letter is not suitable then error message will appear on your screen. Then select the letter other than previous one you have chosen.

Step 9: Press “OK” button to apply the changes.

NOTE:

The letters “A and B” are assigned to floppy disk drives.
