The first thing that appears when you switch on the computer is the Lock Screen. As soon as you press any button, you are taken to the Login screen where you enter the password to access the system.
In Windows 10, you can set a background of your choice for the login screen to give it a striking and delightful look. Even the psychological researches say that a neat and pleasant work environment lets you do things more efficiently. Well, a good background in the login screen gives the same impact.
The background may be an image or just a plain color. Windows 10 makes it easier to change the background for the desktop, lock screen and login screen with its advanced features. In this article, you will get to know how to do that!
Steps to Change Login Screen Background in Windows 10
The most basic and important thing that you need to know is, Windows 10 has an option which lets you display the lock screen background on the login screen background as well. On enabling this option, the background on the lock screen continues to appear on the login screen. Whereas disabling this option will change the background of the login screen to a plain solid color.
So now we start with enabling this option.
Step 1: Right-click on the blank desktop area and select Personalize.
You will be taken to the Personalization Settings where multiple options to customize the appearance of the desktop are available.
Step 2: Select Lock screen from the left-pane.
Step 3: Turn on the toggle switch saying “Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen“.
You will find this toggle switch in the lower part of the screen.
Step 3: Select the Background.
This option is present just below the Preview of the background (as shown in the image).
Windows 10 provides three choices to select the background from.
- Windows Spotlight: This is a unique feature implemented in Windows 8 and Windows 10 which downloads stunning and spectacular pictures of different places in the world from bing. When you select this option, these pictures are displayed on the login screen.
- Pictures: With this option, you can choose an image stored in your computer and set it as the login screen background.
- Slideshow: If you select Slideshow, then you are asked to choose a folder containing images you want to display. These images are then displayed one by one just like a slideshow on the idle login screen.
After setting the background, just press ‘Windows + L’ to lock your screen and check out the background image you selected appears on the login screen.
Here is a Shortcut!
To use this shortcut, you must have switched on the toggle button “Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen“.
Step 1: Open the image you want to set as login screen background using Microsoft Photos.
Microsoft Photos is a modern software for viewing, editing, sharing images and videos on Windows.
Step 2: Click on the three dots present just below the close button on the upper right corner.
It opens a drop-down with some options like copy, open with, print, set as etc.
Step 3: Click on Set as and then select Set as lock screen.
That is it. You can check the login screen for the new background image.
Steps to Set a solid color as the Background on Login Screen
Step 1: Open the Personalization settings and Turn off the toggle switch “Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen“.
Step 2: Select Colors from the left-pane.
Step 3: Select a color of your choice from the color panel.
Or you can also click on the checkbox and the system will automatically choose a color which suits the existing background of the desktop.
Along with the login screen, this color will be applied everywhere else on your system including the tiles on the start menu, taskbar, fonts etc.
In this way, you can easily set an image or a color of your choice as the login screen background.
