The start button is the one present at the left-most corner of the taskbar or at the topmost position in case you have placed the taskbar along the height of your screen. If you’re using Windows 10, your start button might look like the one given below.There are softwares available on the web to customize the start button in Windows 10. One of such software is Classic Shell. It was developed by Ivo Beltchev in the year 2009.
Classic Shell works on the Start Menu, File Explorer and Internet Explorer for the purpose of modifying the appearance and enhancing the User interface. Well, along with Windows 10, Classic Shell also works with other versions of Windows including Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
Steps to Change the Start Button in Windows 10
The process of changing the start button is very simple and involves just two simple things to be done.
- Download & Install Classic Shell
- Change the Start button
1. Downloading and Installing Classic Shell
Step 1: Go to www.classicshell.net.
Classic Shell can be downloaded for free from their official website.
Step 2: Now open the ALL DOWNLOADS tab.
You will be given a list of links to download the latest version i.e Classic Shell 4.3.1 in different languages like English, French German etc.
Step 3: Click on Classic Shell 4.3.1 (English), the very first link. As soon as you click, the downloading of the setup will start in the form of an exe file.
Step 4: Now open the downloaded file and click on Run. After completing the installation process, You will find the Classic Shell in the Start Menu. The Start menu may appear different this time, as you have Classic Shell in your computer.
You can switch to the Windows Start menu by clicking on Start Menu(Windows), as shown in the image above.
2. Changing the Start button
Step 1: Open the Classic Start Menu Settings using the start menu. If you have installed the software just now, it will appear in the list of Recently added apps, else you can use the Windows search to find it. Along with Classic Start Menu Settings, Classic IE Settings and Classic Shell Update will also show up. But you have to deal with Start menu settings.
Classic Start Menu Settings has many tabs including Start Menu Style, Basic Settings, Skin etc.
Step 2: Open the Start Menu Style tab.
This tab has two sections, top section for Start Menu and the bottom one for Start button. In the bottom section, you may find all the buttons inactive.
Step 3: Click on the checkbox saying Replace Start button. Now, you have three choices to replace the start button with:
- Aero
- Classic
- Custom
In case of Aero and Classic button, the preview of the new buttons in already given just below them.
While you can also set a button of your choice using custom. In this case, you will have to pick up an image from your computer and that will appear as the start button.
Step 4: Finally click on OK.
You’re done! Now you have a new jazzy Start button on your computer.
