How to Create an Account in IRCTC

Those days have passed when passenger have to visit the railway station and stand in a long queue to book their tickets. Improving with time Indian Railways have made the facility of booking the tickets online through IRCTC. But for that, you must have to create an account in IRCTC.

What is IRCTC?

IRCTC is an abbreviation for Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation. It is a subordinate alliance of Indian Railways which offers tourism, catering and online ticketing to its customers.

What is IRCTC User-Id?

IRCTC user-id is the User Name which you use to login into your account in IRCTC. Without user-id, you can’t login to irctc and even you cannot book a ticket online.

Steps to Create an Account in IRCTC:

Step 1: Open your web browser and enter the URL irctc.co.in. Doing this you will land to the official website of IRCTC. At the top of this webpage, there is a REGISTER button. Click on the REGISTER button to create your account in IRCTC.

A registration form will appear as you can see in the image below, you have to fill that form to complete the registration process.

Let us understand this form in sections.

Step 2: In the very first section, it informs you that if you are entering garbage or junk details in the form, your profile would get deactivated in some time. So, you have to fill valid information.

First, enter your User Name. If the user name entered by you is already taken by someone then it will blink the message that User Name is Not Available. The User Name must be between 3 to 35 character. Only the letter and number are allowed.

Then comes Password. The password must be a minimum of 8 characters & maximum up to 15 characters. Password must contain at least one small & one capital alphabet and numeric digit.

Then in Confirm Password re-enter your password.

Next, you have to select a Security Question as it would be used in case you forgot your password. Also, define a Security Answer for it.

Now select your Preferred Language, i.e. the language you are comfortable in.

Step 3: In this next section you have to fill your Personal Details. Like, Name, Gender, Date of Birth, your Occupation, Marital status, your Country, Email, ISD- Mobile number and your Nationality.

Here, the Email-id you fill must be valid and it must not have been previously registered to irctc. Same is the case with ISD-Mobile, it must be a valid number and must not have been previously registered with irctc. Otherwise, it will display a message of Not Available.

Step 4: In this section, you’ll have to fill your Residential Address details. You have to fill Flat no, your Street name, Area name, Pin code, your State, City, Post office name and Phone.

In Copy Residence to office Address section, click the Yes radio button if your residential and office address is the same. Click No if you have a different office and residential address.

If you click No, Office Address section will start appearing below Residential Address section. Fill your Office Address details here.

Step 5: There is a Captcha given as you can see in the image below. You have to type that Captcha in the text box just below it. The Captcha is dynamic each time a different Captcha is generated by the site.

Next, check the checkbox that says that you have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions of IRCTC. In case you want to read it click on Terms and Condition.

At last click Register.

Step 6: A ‘Confirmation‘ dialog box will pop out which informs you that the email-id and the ISD-mobile number you have entered while registration will be verified at the time of your first login.

Click OK.

Step 7: When registration is completed successfully, some messages will be displayed on your screen as you can see in the image below:

Click on “click here to login and activate your account”.

Step 8: The above step will land you to the login page of irctc. Log in using your User Name and Password, enter Captcha.

If you want to login using OTP then check the checkbox “Login & Booking With OTP”. It will send OTP to your registered email or phone number. It is just for security purpose.

Click SIGN IN.

Step 9: As this is your first login, your Mobile and Email Verification Process will start.

You must have received one OTP at your registered email and one at your registered mobile number. Put both the OTPs correspondingly in their place and click on the Verify button just next to them. As both email and mobile number will be verified it will show the verified message as you can see in the image below.

Now, you are all done with the registration process and now you can simply log in and operate your irctc account. This site is heavily crowded during morning hours (10-12 am). You’ll find it difficult to create an account at that time. So, try in later hours.
