OneNote 2016 does have many in-built templates that can be applied to the pages of your notes directly. Templates are predefined designs; that you can directly apply to your page. You can also create templates by your own, or you can even customize the predefined templates in OneNote 2016 also.You can apply the same template to all the pages of a section or a different template to a different page of a section.
Applying templates to pages of your notebook makes it more attractive and gives it more uniform and orderly look. It is very easy to create a template with design and layout of your choice. So, let’s start with How to create, add and customize a template in OneNote 2016?
Steps to Create, Add, and Customize a Template in OneNote 2016:
- Add an Already Existing Template in OneNote 2016
- Create a New Template in OneNote 2016
- Customize Already Existing Template in OneNote 2016
1. Add an Already Existing Template in OneNote 2016:
Step 1: Open a OneNote 2016 on your screen, there is an Insert Tab on the title bar of the application click on the Insert tab. Then you will observe the Page Templates button under the Pages group. Down arrow beside the Page Templates button shows your recently used templates. Now, click that Page Templates button.
Step 2: On the right side of your application you will observe a Templates task pane it contains three blocks that are Add a page block which contains categories name of templates that are already built-in OneNote 2016. The second block Always use a specific templates block that allows you to apply the specific templates to all the pages of a section in your notebook. The third block Create a new template that allows you to save your current page as a template.
Step 3: To apply a built-in template in OneNote 2016 click on the down arrow present beside the categories name in the first block Add a page, similar as I selected from Decorative category. Now, select a template from the category, that you want to apply to your page.
2. Create a New Template in OneNote 2016
Step 1: Open OneNote 2016 application on your screen. Open a notebook in it and now, you will see Add a page tab on the right side of your application. Click Add a page tab to add a new page to a section in your notebook.
Step 2: Now, when a new page is added to your notebook to create a new template on this page, first, click View tab present on the title bar of the application. In Page Setup group click to the Paper Size button.
Step 3: A Paper Size task pane is opened on the right side of your application. It has two blocks Paper Size and Print margins. Set size of the paper and add margins it.
Step 4: If you want to add any content to the page of which you want to create a template, add the content as, text image. As in the image below you can see that I added the title name to the page “New Template” (1), a text “Export email Template” (2), and two images (3), (4).
Step 5: Now to save the designed page as template click on the “Save current page as a template“.
Step 6: it will pop up a dialog box Save As Template fill the name you want to give to your newly created template and click Save.
Step 7: As you can see in the image below, you will find your newly created template in the MyTemplate category that appears in the Templates task pane.
3. Customize Already Existing Template in OneNote 2016:
Step 1: Click on the Insert tab in the title bar of the application and then Click on the Page Templates under Pages group.
Step 2: You will find the Templates task pane on the right side of your application. Click on the down arrow beside categories name and select a template of your choice. In the image below you can see that I selected the “History class notes” template under Academic categories. You can observe in the image below, that it contains the globe image as a watermark to the page, and it contains some text.
Step 3: Now, it time to edit the template. In the image below I did few changes to the template like (1), I added a topic “Ancient History” to the heading Today’s Topics:. Next, I added an image(2) in the page. I also edited two more heading as you can see (4) and (5) point in the image below.
Step 4: Now, Click View tab and click Paper size from Page Setup group. Set the size and margin of the paper and then click on “Save current page as a template”.
Step 5: A dialog box will pop up asking to give a name to the customized template. Fill the name in Template name: box and click Save.
Step 6: You will find your customized template in My Templates categories, you can see Historical Template appears in the My Templates category.
