Enable Chat in Gmail
Step 1: To enable your Gmail chat, first of all, you have to log in to your Gmail account. Visit account.google.com. Enter your email id and click on Next.
Further, enter your password and click on Next.
Step 2: Once logged in, you can see the gear icon at the right side of your Gmail screen. Click that gear icon.
Among the options click on Settings.
Step 4: Settings page will be displayed on your Gmail screen. You can observe various buttons like General, Labels, Inbox….. Among these buttons, you have a Chat button. Click on this Chat button.
Step 5: You can see two radio buttons Chat on and Chat off. Click the ‘Chat on‘ button and further, click on Save Changes.
Step 6: As you will click Save Changes your screen will be refreshed and now at the left most corner, below the menu, you have a list of persons with whom you can chat.
Hover your cursor over the person with whom you want to chat. A dialog box will appear which will have a send message button click that button.
Step 7: As you click send message button a chat with the corresponding person will pop up. Type the message in the text box and press Enter to send the message.
Disable Chat in Gmail
Step 1: Click the gear icon and among the displayed options click on Settings.
Step 2: Click the Chat button in Setting page.
Step 3: Click the Chat off radio button to disable the chat and further click on Save Changes.
