The MAC address is an acronym for a Media Access Control address. It is just the address assigned to the hardware of a computer system by the Network Interface Controller majorly known as NIC(network interface card) and a network adapter. These hardware can be Ethernet adapter, Wireless adapter, etc.
The MAC address consists of 48 bits and also known as Physical Address. For finding the MAC address of any device connected to your system you just need to follow the steps shown below.
All the methods explained below, describes the same thing, but the way and technique is different, so you can opt any one according to your wish.
Steps to Find a Computer’s MAC Address on Windows 7
Method 1 of 3:
Step 1: Go to “Start” button and type “cmd” on the search bar.
Step 2: Right click on “cmd.exe” program and choose “Run as Administrator”.
Step 3: Write the command “getmac” and press enter, to obtain the MAC Address of your system.
Step 4: Physical address and Transport Name will appear, if many devices are connected and several MAC addresses are displayed, then you need to be more precise, so follow the step 5.
Step 5: Type the command “ipconfig/all” and press enter.
Step 6: Then MAC address of all Wireless Adapter, Ethernet Adapters and Tunnel Adapters will appear.
Method 2 of 3:
Step 1: Click on “Start” button and then type “ncpa.cpl” in the search bar, the respective program will be displayed, click on it.
Step 2: To know the system’s physical address choose the Local area network or you can also select the connection of which you want to see the MAC address.
Right click on it and then click on “Properties”.
Step 3: Hover the mouse over the identity under the “connect using” which means, through which adapter your system is connected.
The MAC address will be clearly visible to you as shown in the picture below.
Method 3 of 3:
Step 1: Click on “Start” button and go to “Control Panel”.
Step 2: Select “Network and Internet” option.
Step 3: Choose “Network and Sharing Center”.
Step 4: On the left side, you will find various options, click on “Change Adapter Settings”.
Step 5: Select any one connection and right click on it, then go to “Properties”.
Step 6: “Connect using” option will be displayed, which shows the connections, just hover the mouse above it you will get the MAC address.
