Method 1 of 2
Step 1: First go to your Unity dash and select to open Ubuntu Software Center.
Step 2: Under Ubuntu software center you can view all software as well as installed software. You may also see a list of categories at the left-hand side of your screen. Just select any one category as we are choosing “Accessories”.
Step 3: Now, under accessories you can choose your required software, and you can also sort your accessories list by using the dropdown button which is on the right-hand side of your screen (By default you’ll be provided with the top rated results).
Step 4: You’ll be prompted to provide your Ubuntu machine password in order to install or remove any software.
Method 2 of 2
Step 1: First you have to visit the official website of your particular (as here, we are trying to install Skype on Linux). Just select the Debian package version from the website.
Step 2: Now, if you want to directly open the skype Debian package then you must need to select “Open with”, otherwise use “save file” to save the Debian package.
Step 3: After opening the Debian package from the downloaded folder, you may see the following window as shown in the image below. Finally, click on the install button.
Step 4: You’ll again be prompted to provide your system password in order to install any package. Just type your password and the click authenticate button.
