Have you ever tried to lock the drives in Windows 10? Though we can secure our important files by hiding them in file explorer you can even lock the entire drive if you want. You can secure the drive by adding a password to it or Windows allows you to prevent others from accessing the drive.

Steps to Lock Drive in Windows 10:
Lock a Drive
Step 1: Open up the file explorer and click on ‘This PC’, this will display all the drives present in your system. Now you have to choose and right-click on the drive that you want to lock. Among the context menu, you have to click on ‘Turn on BitLocker’.
Step 2: A BitLocker Encryption window will pop out where you can decide a method to unlock your drive. It provides you with two methods either you can unlock the drive using a password or you can use a smart card. Check the first checkbox to unlock the drive using a password now set the password and reenter it again for confirmation. Click on Next.
Step 3: Next, the BitLocker feature will ask you to choose a recovery option for the password you just set. Choose the recovery option you are comfortable with and save the recovery key. Now click on Next.
Step 4: Further you have to choose whether you just have to encrypt the disk space that is utilized or you want to encrypt the entire drive. Selecting the convenient option click on Next.
Step 5: Now to start the encryption of the drive just click on the ‘Start encrypting’ button.
Now when another user will try to access the locked drive it will receive a restriction message as shown in the image below.
Prevent Access to Drive
Step 1: Type ‘Edit Group Policy’ in the Windows search box and click open the app.
Step 2: In the Local Group Policy Editor window, at the left navigation panel you have to navigate to User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components.
Step 3: At the right side of the window in the work area you have to double click and open the File Explorer folder.
Step 4: Now in the File Explorer folder you have to double click and open ‘Prevent access to drives from My Computer’.
Step 5: The step above will pop out a window where you have to click on Enable radio button to enable the prevention of access to the drive. Next, you have to select the drive to which you want to prevent from accessing. Click on Apply and OK.
So, these are the two-method using which you can prevent other users from accessing the drive with your important files and folders. You can even use some third-party apps like ‘Hidden Disk’, ‘VeraCrpt’ to lock your hard drive.
