Steps to Make a picture transparent in PowerPoint 2016:
Note: Before starting with the steps, note that you can make the entire image transparent only if you have inserted the picture inside a shape as fill.
Step 1: So first, under the Insert tab go to the Illustrations group and select Shapes and choose a shape from that gallery.
Step 2: Draw the selected shape on your slide.
Note that the size of the shape is in the same proportion as that of your picture, which you are going to add to that shape.
Step 3: In this step, we will see 2 methods of inserting a picture inside the shape.
Method 1: Under the Format tab, click on the Shape Fill>Picture and select the picture of your choice from the Insert Picture dialog box.

Method 2: Right-click on the shape select Format Shape. A Format Shape pane will open to the right side of your window.
Inside the Format Shape Pane click on the Fill icon and then click Picture or texture fill. Immediately you will see File button below.
Click the File button and it will take you to the Insert Picture dialog box. Select your picture from there and click the Insert button.
Step 4: Now we require the Format Picture pane, you would have found it if you have followed the 2nd method of step 3. If not, then right-click on the picture inside the shape and click Format Picture.
Inside Format Picture pane you have Fill icon click it and move to the Transparency slider. Here, you can adjust the transparency of the picture either by sliding the slider or by writing the digit in the box next to the slider.
Steps to make a part of the picture transparent PowerPoint 2016:
Note that to make only a part of a picture transparent, you have to insert the image as an object in the slide. Filling it inside a shape will not work, to make only a part of a picture transparent.
Making a part of a picture transparent refers to make one of the colours of a picture transparent. Let’s start with the steps.
Step 1: Click Insert>Picture, dialog box Insert Picture will pop-up choose the picture you want to insert and click the Insert button.
Step 2: You can adjust the style of your picture, for that right-click the inserted picture and click Style and select a style from the gallery.
Step 3: Go to Format tab and under Adjust group click Color> Set Transparent Color.
Step 4: Your pointer will get changed, drag your pointer to the inserted picture and click on the color that you want to make transparent.
Now see the effect, the colour you selected wherever, present in the picture will get transparent from the picture.
Steps to make a shape transparent in PowerPoint 2016:
Step 1: Click Insert> Shapes and select a shape from the gallery.
Step 2: Draw the selected shape on the slide. Right-click on the shape and click Format Shape.
Step 3: In the Format Shape pane, inside Fill icon, you have a Transparency slider, sliding it you can adjust the transparency of the shape.
So in this way, we can make a picture transparent or a part of it transparent, or make a shape transparent.
