Control panel is simply a panel for controlling the system settings which allows you to view and adjust your computer’s configuration and administration. Technically, the control panel consists of multiple control panel applets, each dedicated to a particular area of setting.
With the control panel, you can configure your computer’s settings including devices, accounts, date & time, display, programs etc. You can open the control panel in different ways.
Steps to Open the Control Panel in Windows 10
Using the search box:
Step 1: Type Control Panel in search box present on the taskbar.
Step 2: Now, select Control Panel from the list of results generated and the control panel will be opened.
You can also pin the control panel to the Start menu or the Taskbar for creating a quick access.
Using Desktop Toolbar:
The Desktop toolbar, if enabled, is located on the right side of the Taskbar. It contains many shortcuts including the Control Panel.
Step 1: To enable the Desktop Toolbar, right-click on the Taskbar, click on the Toolbars & select Desktop.
An icon for Desktop toolbar will appear on the right side of the taskbar with a clickable arrow beside it.
Step 2: Click on the arrow and a list of shortcuts will appear.
Step 3: Select Control Panel to open it.
Using Start Menu:
You can open the control panel from the Start menu, but this is a slow method.
Step 1: Click the Start button.
You will see a long alphabetically arranged list of applications in the Start menu. Scroll down in this list until you reach the letter ‘W‘.
Step 2: Click on the folder ‘Windows Systems‘ & select Control Panel from the dropdown list.
Using the Windows Run tool:
Windows provide a tool called Windows Run for running a program or application or opening any file or folder just by entering its name.
Step 1: Press ‘Windows button + R‘ to open Windows Run.
Step 2: Type Control Panel and click the OK button.
This will open the Control Panel.
Using the Command Prompt:
To open Control Panel with the help of Command Prompt, you may follow the given steps.
Step 1: Open the Command Prompt.
You can do this by:
- typing ‘command prompt‘ in the Taskbar’s search box, or
- typing ‘cmd‘ in the Windows Run tool.
Step 2: Type ‘start control‘ in the command prompt.
This may appear like ‘C:\Users\TS7>start control‘
Step 3: Press Enter and the Control Panel will be opened.
In Windows 10, the best and fastest way to open the Control Panel is to use the Windows Search box. Anyway, you can use any of the methods stated above.
