How to Set Google Chrome As Default Browser?

The Internet is like a huge ocean of information where you need a browser to explore and swim through it. The websites hold the data including text, images, videos etc. over the world wide web. This data can’t be accessed without a browser.

Today, you have a number of options to choose a browser from. Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and many more are the browsers developed by different companies. These browsers can be downloaded and installed on your computer very easily.

What is the Default Browser?

Suppose, you receive a web link on email or find it in a document. As you click on the link, a browser gets opened automatically to access it. This browser is known as the Default Browser.

An operating system already has a browser set as Default, like Microsoft Edge in Windows 10, Mozilla Firefox in Linux, Safari in macOS. However, Operating Systems are not so rigid; they allow you to change their default browsers.

Google Chrome, being the fastest web browser is the choice of the majority. So let us see how to set Google Chrome as Default browser on your System. Well, it is obvious that you must have Google Chrome installed on your system to set it as the default browser.

Steps to Set Google Chrome as Default Browser

Method 1: Using Google Chrome

Step 1: Go to Google Chrome and open the main menu using the Vertical Ellipsis(three-dot button) present on the upper-right corner.

Step 2: Select Settings to open Chrome Settings.

Here, settings are categorized into different sections including People, Auto-fill, Appearance etc.

Step 3: Scroll down to find the category “Default browser” where you will find a button “Make default” to set Google Chrome as the default browser.

As you click on “Make default”, your default browser will change to Google Chrome.

Method 2: Using Settings in Windows 10

Step 1: Open Settings from the Start Menu.

The Windows Settings will be opened. Here, you will find nine categories, where similar type of settings are grouped into each category like System, Devices etc.

Step 2: Click on System.

Now, in the system settings, multiple options are provided on the left pane to manage the System regarding display, storage, apps and features etc.

Step 3: Select Default apps.
This option is given to let you set a default application for different operations like Email, Map, Music player, Photo viewer etc.

Step 4: Move down the screen to find “Web browser”. Click on existing default browser, i.e. Microsoft Edge in this case.

Step 5: Select Google Chrome to set it as the default browser.

In a couple of seconds, your default browser will change to Google Chrome.
