Steps to Split, Cut & Trim Video in Power Director:
Split & Cut Video in Power Director
Method 1
Import a video on which you want to apply split, cut and trim and drag it to your timeline. Once the video is on your timeline then drag the play head to the point where you want to apply split and then click on the ‘Split timeline’ tool present above your timeline as you can see in the image below.
Then further drag the play head to the point where the second split point should occur this will cover that length of the video which we need to cut. Click on ‘Split timeline’ tool again.
You can notice that the video got split into three parts.
Select the part that you want to cut or remove and click on the bin icon. It will display three options along with their shortcuts.
- Remove and Leave Gap: Choosing this option will remove the selected part of the video and leave the gap as it is.
- Remove and Fill Gap: Choosing this option will remove the selected part of the video and fill the gap by synchronizing the next part to it.
- Remove, Fill Gap, and Move all Clips: This option removes the selected part of the video, fills the gap and along with that move all the videos on that timeline.
Method 2
Drag the play head to the point on the timeline where you want to perform the split and right-click on the video. From the displayed options click on Split.
Then you have to drag the play head to next point where you have to perform the spilt. Right-click on the video and from the options again click on the Split.
Now, from the split video select and right-click on the video that you want to cut and from the displayed options click on Remove and from the sub-options choose the option that fulfils your requirement.
Trim Video in Power Director
Method 1
Hover your mouse above the left or right edge of the video on the timeline. You will get adjusting arrow which you can use to trim off your video. You just have to drag this arrow line to the point in the video up to which you want to trim the video.
Using this method you can trim the starting and end of the video.
Method 2
Select the video on the timeline that you want to trim and this will activate the trimming tool over the timeline. Now select the trim icon denoted by the ‘scissor’ as you can see in the image below.
This will open a new trim window where you can trim the selected video.
This window offers you Single Trim and Multi Trim. We will first discuss single trim and then we will switch to multi trim.
- Single Trim
Drag the play head up to the point from where you want the video to get started and click on ‘MarkIn’ button to trim.
Then drag the play head up to the point where you want the video to get the end and then click on ‘MarkOut’ button as you can see in the image below.
To compare the original video and the trimmed video first click on Original button and play the video then click on the Output button and play the video. If you found your trimming perfect then click on OK.
You can also trim the video by deciding the ‘In position’ and ‘Out position’.
- Multi Trim
Select Multi Trim in the trim Window and you can trim multiple segments from a common video.
What all you have to do is just select the in and out positions of the segments in the video. At the right side of the trim window, you can see how many segments you have trimmed from a single video.
In the image below you can see I have trimmed three segments from a single video.
If you require you can invert the trim result as in the image below you can see that the when I clicked on the ‘Invert trim result’ button then earlier trimmed three segments got deselected and the rest segments got selected now.
