In case you have entered some information in a single cell in Excel, and you want to split the text into separate columns then MS Exel has provided an easy way to split the text in a cell. So let us begin with How to Split Text in a Cell in MS Excel 2016?
Step to Split Text in a Cell in MS Excel 2016:
Step 1: First select the cells, whose text you want to split. You can observe in the image below; I have a column Name which comprises the full names of the candidate i.e. first name and last name. I want to separate first name and last name.
Step 2: Go to Data tab and under Data Tools group, click on Text to Columns button.
Step 3: A Convert Text to Columns Wizard will open. It has three steps. In the first step under Original data type Section select, Delimited as our text is separated with a delimiter, space. Then click Next.
Step 4: In the second step of the wizard, under Delimiters section I have selected Space as my text has space as a delimiter. In case you want to split on the basis of tab, semicolon, comma or other you can choose likewise. You can preview, how your text would be separated in Data preview section. Then click Next.
Step 5: First, select the first column in Data preview section and then choose the column data format as my data is text I have chosen Text. Then repeat the same process for all the columns.
Next, click in the Destination box and the collapse dialog box (3) button.
Step 6: The dialog box will collapse and then select the cell where you want to place your separated text. You will see that the code of the cell will appear in the Destination box. Then click Expand dialog box(3) button. Click Finish button.
Step 7: Here, you can see that Full name and the Last name of the candidate got separated. Align them in the way you want. You can also edit the font, size, colour etc. of the text.
