How to Start Windows in Safe Mode?

Have you ever entered safe mode in Windows 10? When you boot up the Windows system in safe mode you can easily diagnose the problem in your system and sort it down. The safe mode feature boots up the Windows operating system with the basic files and drives that are required to run the system.

In this section, we will be discussing two methods to boot up the Windows system in safe mode.

  1. Using System Configuration
  2. Using System Settings

Steps to Start Windows in Safe Mode:

Method 1: Using System Configuration

Step 1: Search for the Run app in the Windows search box or you can directly press ‘Windows+R’ button to open the Run app.

Step 2: Now type the command ‘msconfig’ in the text box of the Run window and press OK.

Step 3: A System configuration window will pop up, you can even directly get the system configuration window from the Windows search box. Now in the system configuration window click on the Boot tab.

Step 4: In the Boot tab, under the Boot option you have to check the checkbox ‘Safe boot’. Click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’.

Step 5: The system configuration window then asks you to Restart the system to apply the changes. Just click on the Restart button.

Method 2: Using System Settings

Step 1: Type Settings in the Windows search box and open the Settings app. In the Settings window search and click on ‘Update & Security’.

Step 2: Now in the Update & Security settings window in the navigation panel you have to click on Recovery.

Step 3: In the Advanced startup section you have to click on the ‘Restart Now’ button.

Note: As an alternative to this to get the interface below just press hold the shift button and click on Windows Start button> Power Button> Restart.

Step 4: When the system restarts you will get the interface as you can see in the image below. You have to choose the Troubleshoot option among the three provided.

Step 5: Further under Troubleshoot you have to click on ‘Advanced options’.

Step 6: Under Advanced options, you have to click on ‘Startup Settings’.

Step 7: Here you are asked to Restart the system as restarting the system will automatically enable the safe mode.

Step 8: Before restarting the system, it will ask you to choose the number from the options provided. To choose the option you have to use the button from F1 to F9.  To enter the safe mode, you can choose option 4. And let the system restart it will enter in safe mode.
