How to Translate a Webpage in Google Chrome?

As Google Chrome is the most used browser, it has to take care of people who have adapted different languages in various regions of the world. To enhance the versatility of Google Chrome, Google has introduced an amazing feature that translate a webpage into your native language.

On one hand, Google Chrome allows its users to change the language to be displayed on the browser so that the user can read in their native language. Whereas, on the other hand, it translates a webpage appearing in a foreign language to the language that the user reads.

Google Chrome is smart enough to translate the words of the foreign language without affecting other aspects of the webpage like the formatting of text, font size, color, alignment etc. The process of translation can be depicted as:

Whenever you visit a webpage which is written in some other language than yours, Google Chrome gives a small dialog box, asking whether you want to translate the webpage to your language (whichever language you use in chrome) or not.

But, this dialog box will appear only when you have configured Google Chrome to do so. Nowadays, it is enabled in Chrome by default. In case you have it disabled, read the article further to enable translate feature.

Steps to Translate a Webpage in Google Chrome

Step 1: Launch Google Chrome and open Chrome Menu. For this, you have to click on the three-dot button also termed as vertical ellipsis.
Step 2: Select Settings from the Chrome Menu.

open settingsHere, you will find multiple options to configure different areas of settings like accounts, passwords, search engine etc. At last, an option is given to open advanced settings for more features.

Step 3: Under Advanced settings, find “Languages”.

  • Language: to manage the languages used in the browser.
  • Spell Check: to look after the spellings enter by the user.

Step 4: Click on Language and it will drop a list of two options.

  1. Order languages based on your preference: Here, you can select the language that you want to see on Google Chrome. Along with this, you can add more languages.
  2. Offer to translate pages that aren’t in a language you read: This is a Toggle switch, which when turned on, gives you the option to translate a webpage which is originally in a foreign language.

Step 5: Turn on the Toggle Switch saying “Offer to translate pages that aren’t in a language you read“.

Now, whenever you will visit a webpage which is written in a foreign language, you will find a pop-up as shown in the image below.

Step 6: Click on Translate to translate the webpage into your native language.

That’s it. In this way, you can translate a page in Google Chrome.
