Do you want to turn off inactive display??. Great, if dim light irritates you while your system is idle, then you can easily turn off inactive display from your Ubuntu operating system.
For this, we have to install Xscreensaver by replacing gnome-screensaver. Just have a glance at this article to find out how to turn off inactive display in Ubuntu 14.04
Steps to turn off inactive display:
Step 1: First go to your unity dash and click on settings (gear icon) as shown in the image below.
Step 2: Under ‘settings’, click on “Brightness and Lock”.
Step 3: Under ‘Brightness and lock’, you’ll see “Dim screen to save power” and “Turn screen off when inactive for” options.
Step 4: Now what you have to do is to uncheck “dim screen to save power” option and set “turn screen off when inactive for” option to “Never”. As shown in the image below.
Step 5: Now, open your terminal by using “Ctrl+ ALT+ T” key combination and then type: “sudo apt – get remove gnome – screensaver”, press enter.
Step 6: You’ll be prompted to provide your Ubuntu password for further authentication. Just type your password and then press enter.
Step 7: Press ‘Y’ (yes) when you will be asked: “Do you want to continue”.
Step 8: After that, type: “sudo apt – get install xscreensaver xscreensaver – data – extra – xscreensaver – gl – extra” and then press enter.
Step 9: Again, you will be asked “Do you want to continue”, just press “y” and hit enter.
Step 10: Now go to your Unity search and type “screensaver”, you may see the screensaver icon as shown in the image below.
Step 11: As soon as you clicked the screensaver icon, you may see Xscreensaver window.
Step 12: Now at the top of Xscreensaver window you may see “Mode” option, just select “Disable screen saver” from the drop down in order to turn off an inactive display.
