To maintain the performance of your system and keep it up to date, it is important to remove the apps and programs from the system which are outdated or no longer in use.
It is possible that a program or an app starts behaving in an improper manner because of some technical issues. Then you must remove that particular program so that it does not hamper the overall performance of the computer.
When a program is uninstalled, the set up of the program along with all the associated files is removed from the computer storage. Thus, uninstalling a program also releases the occupied memory, increasing the space in the storage which can be utilised by other apps.
Here are three methods for uninstalling a program or app in Windows 10. Let us begin with the simplest and fastest method to uninstall a program say Notepad++ from the computer.
Steps to Uninstall Apps in Windows 10
METHOD 1
Step 1: Click on the Start button.
The Start menu will provide you with the list of the installed programs and apps where you will find the program which you want to uninstall.
Step 2: Right-click on the program. This will give you three options.
- Pin to start: This option will pin the program in the Start menu which will provide you quick access to it.
- More: Here you will find three more option including ‘Pin to taskbar’, ‘Run as administrator’ & ‘Open file
location’. - Uninstall: This option will let you uninstall the program.
Step 3: Click on the Uninstall option.
This will take you to the old style Uninstallation Menu present in the Control Panel. This menu holds a list of programs and apps, from which you can select the one which is to be uninstalled.
Step 4: Now, Click on the program (as per the example, Notepad++), an Uninstall button will appear at the top of the list. Click on the Uninstall button.
Step 5: A dialog box will be displayed for uninstallation of the program. It also shows the folder from which the program is being uninstalled. Click on Uninstall.
Step 6: As the uninstallation gets completed successfully, click on Close.
We’re done! The app is uninstalled from the system.
METHOD 2
Step 1: Click the Start button and go to Settings option present on the left-most side of the menu(as shown in the image below).
This will open the Windows Settings. Here, you will find different categories for settings which include System, Devices, Network & Internet, Personalization, Accounts, Time & language, Ease of Access, Privacy and Update & security. A short description is given below each category which gives you an idea of the multiple settings present in it.
Step 2: Click on System.
This will open the System Settings which further contains a menu with various settings on the left side. By default, the Display Setting is opened.
Step 3: Click on Apps & features.
A list of all the installed apps and programs along with their size will be given to you. There are three options provided, which make it easier to find a program in the list.
a) You can search this list for a particular app by typing its name on the search box present at the top.
b) Below the search box, an option is given for sorting this list on the basis of name, size or date of installation.
c) Under this option, one more option is present which filters the list and only those program and app are displayed which belong to the selected drive. By default, the programs from all the drives are displayed.
Step 3: Type ‘Notepad++‘ in the search box to find the app from the list and click on it. Then, click on the Uninstall button.
Step 4: A prompt will appear on the screen stating that the app and related information will be deleted. Click on the Uninstall button again.

METHOD 3
This is the same old method for uninstalling a program that you have been using in previous versions of Windows.
Step 1: Type ‘Control Panel‘ in the search box present on the taskbar. The control panel will pop up on the top of the start menu, open it.
In the control panel, you will find various categories for Settings like System & Security, Hardware & Sound, Programs etc.
Step 2: Click on Programs.
This will take you to the next step, where you will be given two options, namely Programs & features and Default programs.
Step 3: Click on Programs & features.
This will open the Uninstallation menu with a list of installed programs.
The further process is same as Method 1 from Step 4. Click to jump to the next step.
In this way, you can uninstall any app or program from your system. However, it is very important to perform the uninstallation carefully, otherwise, you may face performance issues and problems in your system.
