It becomes laborious when we have repeated data to be fed in the Excel spreadsheet. Flash Fill reduces your work of entering the data manually in each cell. It also saves your time. Flash Fill automatically fills the values in the cell. For that, you just have to type one or two examples that help in recognizing the pattern of output you require.
After recognizing the pattern of the examples, the flash provides you with the advised list as your Google search engine does when you start writing on the search box it advises you with a list of relevant searches. With the help of Flash Fill, you can split the information in a cell, or you can also club the information present in two separate columns. Steps to Use Flash Fill in MS Excel 2016:
Step 1: If, you want to use flash fill. First, you have to turn ON the Automatic Flash Fill and for that open a document in MS Excel 2016. Now, go to File tab and click Options button.
Step 2: It will pop up Excel Options dialog box. In the image below you can see on the left side of Excel Options dialog box, there is Advanced tab click the Advanced tab.
Step 3: Under Editing options you will find Automatic Flash Fill checkbox. Click on Automatic Flash Fill checkbox to turn it ON.
Or instead of above three steps, you can directly turn ON the Flash Fill, for that go to the Data tab and click on Flash Fill button under Data Tools group.
Or You also have the easiest option among all press Ctrl+E to get Flash Fill ON.
Step 4: In the image below you can observe a spreadsheet that has a list of First name and Last name of some persons in two different column. Now, I want to club the First Name and Last Name of each person in a new column. For that start writing the Full name of the first person as I wrote George Abbot in a cell when you start to write the second full name till then Excel’s Flash Fill has recognized your writing pattern and will advise you the entire list clubbed first names and last names.
If you agree wth the advised list, click enter.
Step 5: You will observe the output as the filled column with Full names of the persons. It reduces your headache of writing each full name one by one in the column.
